Honestly, not many upgrades are needed for this guy. It serves it’s purpose as a low displacement dual sport without needing some of the adjustment many other Chinese motorcycles do (IE: Carb jetting, LED lighting). Here are some basic accessories known to fit. If you have any more, please Contact us so we can add them or post them on on the Facebook Group. I’ll add these shortly!
If you are in need of parts, please reference the Parts List and find yourself a Lifan dealer that can order parts.
Got the check engine light? It helps if you know what it’s for. Here’s a cheap OBD scanner solution that works with our bikes:
Battery
Battery crap out on you? Looking for stock spec? Don’t waste your effort replacing the stock battery. Buy any myriad of aftermarket batteries that fit the battery tray. Here’s a good example of an Amazon battery (Thanks Greg!) that has had some success in other Chondas and meets the battery dimensions (5 1/2″ tall 5 3/8″ wide 3″ deep)
Ensure you get a battery with the positive post on the left side so you aren’t having to stretch cables and possible short something.

Spark Plugs
Spark plugs are wear items and will eventually need to be replaced. You can go with the standard or the iridium. You should get better performance / longer life out of the iridium but the standard may be available at your closest auto parts store and cheaper than Amazon. We recommend the NGK: CPR8EA-9 and CPR8EAIX-9. A standard 5/8 plug wrench will remove and install.
Oil Cooler
Thank to Jerry for the suggestion and Youtube video. These two items will get you the proper equipment to install an oil cooler on the KPX250 – use Jerry’s video below as a reference.
Skid Plate
This skid plate is pricey, but has been the closest we can find that remotely fits the KPX 250. If you have something that fits better that is readily available, please Contact us and let us know!
In addition to the skid plate, you will need:
1x M8x1.25x100mm bolt (I prefer allen key head for clearance)
2x M8x1.25x20mm bolts (hex or allen)
Washers, optional
A drill bit to create to holes in the bottom of the skid plate
Instructions:
1. Remove the Bottom, front motor mount bolt that attaches it to the frame
2. Mount the skid plate, using your new bolt and the stock nut
3. Rotate the skid plate against the bottom frame. Here you can either drill straight up into the plate, or mark through the pre-threaded holes into the skid plate, remove, and drill the wholes
4. Using the 20mm bolts (with washers), attach through the hole, threading into the frame

Bark Busters / Hand Guards:
Thanks again to Jerry for the suggestion. These fit the stock handlebar setup, just remove the stock bar end bolts.

Chain
Chain broken? Want an upgrade? Go with a nice 520, o ring chain. The stock length is 108, so stick around that and you’ll be just fine and not have to remove links. You can do this without a chain tool as long as you buy the 108 tooth length. Don’t forget the chain breaker to make it easier on yourself.
Grips
Can’t go wrong with good ‘ol pro taper grips. If you’re like me and really like them to stick in place, grab some e6000. These will prevent you getting blisters if you ride without gloves and I personally think they isolate some of the vibration to the hands.
Levlers / Controls
Broke your levers falling over? Just want something a little nicer or adjustable? These work, but require some work to adjust them correctly. Available in all the colors you might want.
-Don’t bother with the brake master cylinder, simply detach the brake lever and it fits on the stock kpx250 lever position
-The clutch lever does not fit on the stock mount, so you’ll need to pull it all off and replace. This is much easier as it’s just a cable controlled clutch.
-I wrapped two rounds of electric tape around the bolt holding the clutch lever. I has some play from the factory and it’s quite annoying.
-Learn (watch Youtube) about how to adjust your clutch tension, it will inevitably be a bit off when swapping to the new lever
-My clutch lever had a sharp edge where the cable laid. No use in shredding a cable because you wanted pretty levers. Take a small file, or anything, and round off the edge. (Pictures below).
-Keep your stock parts for when you inevitably drop the bike on the trail and your stock setup is the only way to get home. Store it in your tailbag. We’ve used many spares to repair our bikes and others on the trail.
Shifter
This shifter from Tusk is slightly shorter, but very nice and well-made. The other shifter is slightly longer and also fits but not feel as quality as the Tusk.
Sprocket
Crazy enough to need even more top end? This bike is coming stock with a 13tooth front sprocket. There is just enough room (with maybe .05″ clearance after install) to fit a 14tooth sprocket. This will leave you with a usable low end and (maybe?) a higher top speed. **Nope, just extends the gears. I would only recommend this if you are strictly a highway cruiser. We installed these just for a road trip to Kentucky from Atlanta on the Highway, but removed them after returning to get our low end torque back to full force.
If you need a replacement for the stock sprocket, here it is:
Seat Cover
You have options for a seat cover. I went with the mesh airy cover, and may add some memory foam under it later, but it serves the purpose of slight cushioning while keeping my seat from baking in in the sun. The cushion seat will provide a little more comfort for extended seat time. Simply strap/tie/secure it under the seat and reinstall your seat for both.
USB Charger / Battery Charger Connection
I personally use the usb charger and battery charger connect. As you probably know by now, the battery is annoying to get to, so having a pigtail you can at least trickle charge through (fused at 10amps) is very nice. The usb charger keeps my phone topped off when I’m using it for GPS and has been a lifesaver on my other bikes.
**Addition 2024: There’s a new handlebar mount usb charger. It has the same connections so you can use with a battery charger (or upgrade your previous one if you had the older box style).
Mirrors
Don’t like the spot mirrors? It appears the mirrors are a 10mm thread. These will work as a nice substitution with a better shape and better viewing space.
Storage
I’m a big fan of taking some tools, maybe a tube, some tire spoons, small 12v air compress, etc. On longer trail rides I can even fit water bottles and snacks in this one. It looks big in the Amazon add but collapses down when it’s not full. Straps right onto the stock luggage rack.
**Update 2024 – Wife bought me an even larger saddle bag that is built much much better with more storage spots, I’m a big fan. I built a bottom for it out of plywood and secured it solid to the storage rack. It’s the second one listed here.. much more expensive but I had worn out the seams on the old one from all the off-roading.
Also gonna list my saddlebags here. Let me be clear by saying if you installed these without any rack setup or supports, then these will leave against the exhaust and burn a whole in them. DO NOT RUN THESE WITH OUT SOME SORT OF SUPPORTS!. I personally created my own support from a roofing squaring and some insulative material. You will melt the inside of the bag.. ask me how I know.
Cell Phone Mount
There are lots of ways to do this, but be warned that a high end cell phone can have it’s camera focus messed up if you shake it around too much (IE: mounting the camera then doing some extreme off-roading). I’ve had great luck with this simple cell phone mount, and pop it directly on the center of my bars. Quick release and a tension lock so hopefully you don’t’ lose your cellphone due to a crappy mount!
**If you have an iPhone, you risk damaging your auto focus by running this mount as it doesn’t dampen the vibration. You may want to look into quad-lock.
